Candidate Statement:

(In response to the question, "Please explain why you believe you are qualified for the judicial position for which you are seeking election.")

I am Ajmeri Hoque and I am running for Franklin County Municipal Court. I was born in Bangladesh and my family moved to this country when I was a toddler. We settled in New York City during my formative years and moved to Columbus in 2002, when I got accepted to The Ohio State University for undergrad. I continued my education at Capital University Law School, graduated in 2010 and got my legal license in NY and Ohio. And I have been practicing ever since.

I am qualified to be a Municipal Court Judge because that was primarily the work I did in several counties. I was a municipal court prosecutor in Lancaster for two years. After that, I went into private practice and I had municipal court cases in Franklin, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Cleveland, Athens, Hocking, Logan, Richland, Marion, Morrow, Ross and Pickaway counties. I have experience in every single case that can appear in municipal court, including civil cases. I have municipal court jury trials, suppression hearings, bond hearings, and basically every type of hearing possible both as a prosecutor and a defense attorney.

I built on my practice of being empathetic and removing barriers from my clients. I always made it a point to meet my clients where they are. I have traveled all over the state to meet with clients, been in their homes, workplaces, treatment centers; wherever it would be convenient for them. Because of this I am able to bring a full picture of my clients to discussions with prosecutors and judges. And I hope to continue to bring empathy and understanding to the bench.
